چکیده

Hydration products of Portland cement pastes, hydrated in water and in the presence of zinc ions were studied comparatively at different ages. Hydration products were studied by X ray diffractions (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR). Although IR is not frequently used in cement chemistry, it evidenced a new phase Ca(Zn(OH) 3 ) 2 . 2H 2 O formed during cement hydration in the presence of zinc. The significant retardation of early cement hydration in the presence of zinc is assessed in detail by differential calorimetry as a complement to the study carried out by IR and XRD, providing evidence that permits to evaluate the kinetic of the early hydration.

Effects of Mud from a Zinc-plating Plant and Zeolite Saturated with Zinc on Portland Cement Hydration and Properties of Hardened Cement Pastes

This work investigates the impact of mud from a zinc-plating plant and zeolite saturated with zinc on early hydration processes of ordinary Portland cement. During the first 48 hours of hydration, the addition of mud significantly affects the cement hydration kinetics. The partial replacement of cement with zeolite saturated with zinc ions, reduces the negative impact of mud on the hydration pr...

Thermodynamical and Experimental Study of the Effects of Ball Clay-Silica Fume Combination on the Hydration and Strength

The production of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) as the most expensive constituent of concrete is associated with destructive environmental effects and significant energy consumption. Thus, the use of supplementary cementitious materials such as Natural or synthetic pozzolans is a fundamental solution that affects the kinetics of hydration of cementitious materials. In this article, to evaluate...

Solidification/Stabilization of Lead Contaminated Soil Using Magnesia Phosphate cement and Ordinary Portland cement

Background and objectives: Solidification/stabilization is an effective technique for reducing the leachability of contaminants in soils. Magnesia phosphate cement and ordinary Portland cement can be used to remediate soils contaminated. In this study, the performance of the solidified/stabilized soil was compared for mixtures composed of magnesia phosphate and ordinary Portland cement. Materia...

Cement Composition Effects on the Rheological Property Evolution in Concentrated Cement–Polyelectrolyte Suspensions

We have studied the rheological property evolution and hydration behavior of white and ordinary portland cement (type I) pastes and concentrated cement–polyelectrolyte suspensions. Cement composition had a marked effect on the elastic property evolution (G (t)) and hydration behavior of these suspensions in the presence of poly(acrylic acid)/poly(ethylene oxide) copolymer (PAA/PEO), even though...

Interaction of tartaric acid during hydration of Portland cement

Hydration of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in the presence of tartaric acid has been studied by using different techniques. Calorimetric studies have shown a rapid enhanced heat evolution within 5 min of hydration in presence of 1.0 wt% tartaric acid with a strong retardation of silicate phase hydration. DSC and X-ray diffraction studies have confirmed the formation of calcium tartarate hydrat...
